Guide
New Zealand seafood seasons
Fish follow the water temperature, the spawning season and the quota year. Here's a general guide to when the species we carry are at their best. For this week's catch, ask us.
Through the year
| Species | Best months | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Snapper | November to April | Summer fish in the north, with the fattest fish before spawning |
| Blue cod | All year, best in winter | Southern waters, with catch limits that change by area |
| Greenshell mussels | All year | Farmed, so supply is steady. Plumpest in late winter and spring |
| Yellowfin and bigeye tuna | January to April | Follow warm currents down the east coast |
| Marlin | January to April | Summer and early autumn game season |
| Imported lines | All year | Salmon, Japanese tuna, lobster, prawns and calamari fill the gaps |
